2nd & Charles
Hello fellow Bri's Bookers!
This week I am sharing with you all a new book store, 2nd. & Charles.
It is a relatively new store with a few locations such as Midlothian and Richmond. The store has a concept similar to that of Book Exchange. At 2nd. & Charles, you can bring in old books, movies, music, etc. that you no longer use or want. A process will then be done to determine how much your items are worth either in store credit or in cash (the cash amount being lower than the amount in store credit).
I really like 2nd. & Charles because they do have a large selection to choose from with a lot of the latest books and music. However, I do not like the system they use to determine how much your items are worth. I once went there with a box set trilogy of books that are in perfect condition and a few other books. After waiting an hour for them to run calculation and make the determination, I went back only to be told that my items which I had spent at least $40 on was only worth $4 in cash. When I asked why the amount was so low, I was told that the determination is not made based upon the condition of your items or worth of them. Rather, the determination is based upon the rarity of our items and whether or not the store already has them in stock. It is based largely upon the store's ability to resell the items. Because they already had a large supply of my books in stock, they were not worth much to the store. I then opted to take my items back and go to Book Exchange instead where I know I can get store credit equal to the worth of my items.
In conclusion, I would recommend 2nd. & Charles to anyone looking to buy books, movies, music, etc. However, I would not necessarily recommend it to someone who is trying to sell anything unless the items are rare.
